Samuel Adams Scotch Ale is a unique ale which stands in a class by itself. Scotch Ale is full of dynamic malts, slightly more bitter than a winter brew, hints of coffee aromas, caramel and smokey hazelnut rises from the glass; this is a first class collectors brew of complex proportions. And we’re back on the brewmaster’s collection with yet another uniquely crafted Samuel Adams brew. Honey Porter pours a rich dark brownish red, a bit opaque compared to a stout or standard porters. The coloring looks like sleek brown silk reflecting in the light, very sexy. The head is constant and fairly white which resides throughout the life of this Honey Porter. Another Samuel Adams Brewmaster’s collection variant, Black Lager is much as it sounds: Black. I’m not a huge fan of Sam Adam’s Lager, usually leaning more towards their ale recipes but this was something a bit different, darker and usual. This Black Lager pours very dark, with a slight reddish brown color when placed directly up against a bright light, but overall very dark.
