The Chicago South Side differs a bit from the standard Southside cocktail both in spelling (space between “south” and “side” along with the word Chicago proceeding it). The major factor is the use of Angostura bitters in the Chicago South Side and we’re talking a good deal of bitters, 7 full dashes which puts it close to a quarter ounce of bitters.
The Chicago South Side cocktail recipe will give you a better appreciation for angostura bitters because it isn’t overly bitter, yet retains all the flavorful ‘trade spices’ of angostura bitters.
You don’t have to be from Chicago to enjoy a Chicago South Side cocktail recipe and you can make it at your home bar or any establishment you work at and will find your patrons will fall in love with it.
The Chicago South Side works for all seasons, but chilly summer nights may be one of the best times to drink this south side variation. Make one at home today.
