Let’s talk about one of the longest held secrets in the Whiskey Industry, specifically around Rye and Bourbon. Your whiskey may not be distilled by the company you think it is.
There is a little (or very large) mass distillation company known as MGP, or Midwest Grain Products. These guys have been distilling rye, bourbon and even vodka/gin for brands and those brands are re-bottling it with their own label.
That’s all fine and good, until one or two of those brands hide it and try to convince their customers the product’s they sell are small batch, hand crafted and micro-distilled… when it’s all a lie.
But, what are the pro’s and con’s to this dirty little secret about MGP and the brands that use it. Is there any impact or taste when you’re ordering off a recipe list? Let’s talk about it.
