Let’s teach you how to make a mint julep and we’re doing it with some high proof bourbon. This is a great bartending 101 cocktail for the kentucky derby.
The Mint Julep is a classic Kentucky Derby cocktail recipe that brings out some flavorful mint, chilled whiskey and lots of love. This mint julep cocktail is made with some 120 proof Knob Creek. Of course, you can make a mint julep drink with standard 80 proof whiskey and be fine with it–you should still get some beautiful oak flavor from it.
You can make a mint julep recipe in any cup, but a julep cup really chills it up fast and furious, so it’s a cocktail recipe you can expand on with better barware, like a real bartending mavin. Make sure you add the mint julep to your bartending 101 little black book, especially when the Kentucky Derby is happening.
The Mint Julep
– 1/4 oz. simple syrup
– 8 mint leaves
– 2 oz. bourbon
– Aromatic bitters (optional)
