Maple Cherry Whiskey Shooter, How-To

Tasting Notes:  Not nearly as mild as sweet as it might look; tons of whiskey punch in the face with a hint of sweet finish but it’s hard to find after the high strength bourbon.

Maple Cherry Whiskey Shooters all around! This DrinkUpNY.com sponsor episode brings together Four Roses Whiskey against maple syrup and a cherry–layered. Yes, it is going to be rad.

Derrick and Jen, it’s maple sugaring season up here in NH, so I plan to serve a round of the Maple Cherry Whiskey shots at our poker game tomorrow night. I’ll use a local syrup, of course. Given your reviews, I might try something a little lower proof on the bourbon side, maybe some Bulleit Frontier bourbon. We’ll see how it goes.

Maple Sugar season? I’ve never heard of that and I’ve lived here in NH since I was 5 :)

You must be too far south! Up here a lot of people tap their own maple trees and boil the sap into syrup. It coincides with Mud Season, when all the dirt roads thaw and become semi-impassable. In any case, I’ll buy some maple syrup from the Taylor Brothers Farm or McNamara Dairy and use some truly local products. We do need a distillery to open up here though.

Uh, yes, I am too far south. I’m in the NH land where roads are paved with …pavement :) I have seen a few maple trees, but I don’t think there are any around here and if they were, nobody is tapping them for anything, just using them for shade and racking up their leaves. :-) I’m 10-minutes from the Mass border.

I might need to come down there and do a guest appearance to introduce the Cinco Drinko Daiquiri. It’s a perfect warm weather drink, and ’tis the season.

Your definition of “warm weather” is slightly different from mine :)
