We know people go above and beyond for toasting the New Year and often ring it in with an above average… okay, an expensive bottle of champagne. However, I’m not a huge champagne drinker so toasting to something that’s not really exciting to me doesn’t make much sense but I’ve been doing it for over 15-years so why stop now, right? Wrong.
Tequila. Yes, Tequila. Perhaps Tequila is the new champagne…? Why not, it’s all about ringing in the New Year with something different and awesome. Consider it being symbolic of all the changes you’ll make in your life through the 2012 year, including watching more Common Man Cocktails episodes and trying new spirits. So, let’s start trying some new spirits today.
What you’ll want to do is go out and buy yourself a bottle of Don Julio 1942 (roughly USD $70-90 online) and forget the expensive bottle of bubbly. You’ll probably have enough left to enjoy another glass of tequila the day after New Years and several days beyond… unless you’re partying with a hoard of Tequila drinkers (it happens).
Here is a recipe to try, it’s called the Midnight Revelry.
- 1 1/4 ounces Tequila Don Julio 1942
- 1/4 ounce Grand Marnier®
- 1/2 ounce Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
- 1/4 ounce Simple Syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon of Chipotle Chili Powder
- Sugar or salt to taste
- Lime wedge for garnish
1. Combine Tequila Don Julio 1942, Grand Marnier, lime juice, simple syrup and chili powder into a cocktail shaker.
2. Shake well and strain into a rocks glass.
3. Rim glass with sugar or salt to taste.
4. Garnish with lime wedge.
