Today we’re tasting our homemade Melon Liqueur created in our past video on How To Make Homemade Melon Liqueur. The goal was to create a Midori Melon Liqueur substitute because some folks are not able to buy Midori in their region of the world (our show is highly international.) We tried to match the color as best we could, it’s not perfect but it isn’t too bad either.
In the end, the flavors were not nearly as super sticky sweet as the real Midori product and, perhaps even a cheaper Melon Liqueur brand will be a bit more sweet. What this homemade melon liqueur does have going for it is the mouth-feel and overall texture and silky smoothness. I contribute this to our utilization of a good vodka (Absolute) and real honeydew melon, the aroma is much more of a honeydew flavor than the sweet scents of Midori.
Will it work as a substitute in a cocktail that gains most of its essences and reputation using Midori Melon? Probably not. Will it work as a melon liqueur in a cocktail that is supposed to bring some nice melon flavors with an authentic fruit taste and a huge quality mouth feel? Most definitely.
